THE SMURF RUNNER

THAT'S NOT A WRAP!

The owner of this Toyota 4Runner first visited Octane Art while traveling Historic Route 66 with his brother-in-law. During that visit, he shared the vision for this project.

He debated between wrapping his 2020 Toyota 4Runner or giving it a permanent custom paint finish. With longevity and durability in mind, he chose a professionally painted design that would withstand years of travel and adventure.

As a former USAF fighter pilot, he wanted his 4Runner to honor the iconic AT-38B “Smurf Jet” camouflage scheme; a paint pattern instantly recognizable to generations of fighter pilots and weapon systems officers who completed Lead-In Fighter Training during the 1980s through the early 2000s.

To bring that vision to life, we designed a custom three-color blue and gray camouflage inspired by the original aircraft while adapting it to the body lines of the Toyota 4Runner.

To ensure the vehicle was as durable as it was distinctive, we applied Raptor bed-liner coating to the roof, hood, front and rear bumpers, fender flares, lower body panels, and wind deflector; creating a finish built to handle years of backcountry exploration.

As the finishing touch, we incorporated a silhouette of the Colorado mountains along the transition between the camouflage and bed-liner, reflecting the owner’s love of the outdoors and his home state.

The result is “The Smurf Runner”, a one-of-a-kind tribute that blends military aviation heritage, overland capability, and handcrafted automotive artistry into a vehicle built to be driven, explored, and enjoyed.

Every custom paint job tells a story.

This one honors a legacy.

We're proud to bring that vision to life.
